a brown and crisp heap
the young hedgehog knows
where to hibernate
A small hedgehog peers curiously out of a pile of brightly coloured autumn leaves that he has gathered for the winter. His brown fur blends harmoniously into the warm tones of the surroundings bathed in the golden autumn sun. The background captivates with its rich, warm colours and creates a cosy atmosphere.
Hedgehog in autumn leaves is a hand-painted watercolour painting by artist Karen Kaspar.
This work, a combination of painting and haiku, is a joint project by Karen Kaspar (© art) and Marjolein Rotsteeg (© Haiku).
A haiku is a traditional Japanese poetic form consisting of three lines.
Here the watercolour painting has been supplemented with the haiku in English. The painting is also available without text (see album 'Animals').
The proceeds from the sale of prints of this hedgehog haiku artwork will be donated in full to the Avolare Wildlife Hospital in the Netherlands (avolare.nl). The purchase of one of these artworks supports sick and injured wild animals such as hedgehogs and wild birds. Make yourself a beautiful gift and do good at the same time!
You can find more paintings with haiku and poems in my albums 'Haiku and Painting English' and 'Haiku and Painting Dutch'. The albums are constantly being expanded with new works. So keep checking back from time to time!
