One cold morning, Heeswijk Castle loomed out of a dense winter fog. The outline of the building was just visible, softly enveloped by the grey of the sky. The trees and bushes surrounding the castle were covered in hoarfrost - every twig white and sharply outlined. The whole scene felt hushed and subdued.
The composition is naturally framed: frozen branches frame the castle and lead your gaze to the heart of the image. The soft light of the morning completes the mood - chilly but full of detail.
What attracted me was how the frost and mist worked together. The castle, normally so imposing, now seemed small and hidden - almost hidden in the winter landscape.
Would this historic winter scene fit into your interior - as a quiet eye-catcher with character?
