About ‘Her Pop Dollar in Essence’ by Aretha James

"Her Pop Dollar in Essence" is a vibrant collage where expressive female faces, pop-art typography and layered graphic shapes come together in one dynamic visual universe. The black & white dollar, textures and small hidden details such as halftone patterns, magazine-like cut-outs and overlapping contours give the artwork a lively, rhythmic quality. With every glance, new elements become visible, adding depth and personality to the piece.

The origins of this artwork go back to the mid-1990s, when I created the initial collage entirely by hand. I spent hours cutting, pasting and composing the imagery. At the time, I was studying to become a make-up artist and hair stylist, and I used the collage as a poster to attract models who wanted to pose for my training sessions. Because of this personal history, I always kept it. In 2009, I digitised the original piece and continued shaping it into the modern artwork it has become.

Part of the inspiration comes from pop culture, including Prince's song The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, but the deeper source lies within my own family. My grandmother, of Javanese-Chinese heritage, is the foundation of a diverse line of women with different skin tones, stories and identities. This artwork is both a visual celebration of that heritage and an ode to the many facets of womanhood.
The result is a powerful, colourful piece that adds warmth, energy and character to any interior, inviting viewers to discover new layers each time.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
