About the artwork
Het Hoogeland at the end of Biltstraat (Museumlaan 2) Originally a country house (start of construction: 1825) with an English garden, the city of Utrecht was able to purchase the country house in 1888 and subsequently had the garden converted into a city park, creating the Hogelandsepark. In 1891, Utrecht's Municipal Museum of Antiquities moved from the top floor of the Utrecht Town Hall to this spacious country house. In 1918, the Forestry Commission moved into the buitenplaats, which over time had an extra floor built on top to house its own museum. Since about 1994, Het Hoogeland has been used as office/commercial space.
The photo was taken in the evening of 14 January 2015, Dark Utrecht. That's the name of my series of photos of Utrecht places after sunset. Most Dark Utrecht photos were shot at dusk. http://www.donkerutrecht.nl
