About ‘Heusden Vesting Corn Mill’ by Hans Janssen

The corn mills of Heusden Vesting are a lovely feature of the town’s historic character. The mills were once used to grind grain into flour, which bakers could then use to make bread. Thanks to their elevated position, the sails could catch the wind effectively.

The mills serve as a reminder of a time when wind power played an important role in everyday life. Nowadays, they are primarily a striking sight within the fortifications and a tangible reminder of Heusden’s artisanal past. Walkers and visitors can admire the mills and imagine for a moment what life must have been like along the town ramparts in days gone by.
