In summer 2011, I had planned to climb the Gwächtenhorn from the campsite in 1 day. It is customary to walk to a hut first, sleep there and start the climb very early the next day. Because of this approach, the alarm clock was set at 3 a.m. and we were on the road 20 minutes later. The day started out grey, and soon we found ourselves in a whiteout, so we couldn't quite see where we were going. As a result, we ended up standing at the bottom of the wrong mountain. Fortunately, we were able to walk back a bit quickly, allowing us to go up the chosen mountain with a slight delay.
It was still very grey, but just before the front summit it suddenly started to blow, so clouds slowly disappeared and we were able to continue the climb (and descent) in the sunshine.
