About ‘Hürtgenwald’ by Richard Driessen

In the autumn and winter of 1944 and 1945, the longest battle of the war on German soil took place in the Hürtgen Forest. The Allies moved into the rough and unfamiliar terrain to secure their advance towards the Rhine, and encountered what they underestimated was resistance from German forces.

The battle cost many casualties on both sides. The Hürtgen Forest consisted of dense forests, barren hilltops and deep gorges. Heavy rain, snowfall and a lack of roads made it very difficult to get through. The battle lasted from mid-September 1944 to mid-February 1945, ending with an Allied victory.

For US soldiers, the name itself - with its first syllable, 'hurt' - became an adverb for injury and death. To this day, hundreds of soldiers from both sides are still missing, and their remains are still being found.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
