IJsselstein is home to "the biggest Christmas tree" in the Netherlands. It is the Gerbrandytoren or better known as the Zendmast Lopik. It is a radio and television transmission tower and was commissioned in 1961. With a total length of 372 metres, it is the tallest structure in the Netherlands. Since 1992, the tower has been decorated as a Christmas tree by means of additional tethers (cables), with lights.
