Ice crystals

An ice crystal or snow crystal is a crystal, a clear and regularly shaped particle of ice (frozen water). Ice crystals are formed in cold air that is supersaturated with water vapour, thus forming clouds.

In meteorological terms, a snow crystal is a single ice crystal, whereas a snowflake (a particle that falls during snowfall) is a cluster of multiple snow crystals stuck together.[1]

The formation of an ice crystal begins with a dust particle. Such a dust particle is called a nucleus. It can be salt, sand, a clay particle, volcanic ash or industrial dust. Water molecules attach themselves to this as crystallites. What is remarkable about this formation is that the water molecules react differently to different substances. For example, with silver iodide (used to artificially induce rain or snow showers), a crystal forms at a temperature of 4 °C, but with the clay type vermiculite, this only happens at -15 °C.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
