Icelandic moss is very common in the dunes of Schoorl aan Zee. Icelandic moss is a shrubby lichen from the family Parmeliaceae. The species is very rare in the Netherlands and is on the Dutch Red List as being seriously threatened. Medicinal properties were attributed to the plant. It was therefore collected in its entirety.
