Icarus and his father Daidalos were held captive in Crete by King Minos. To escape, they build wings from feathers fixed in wax. Because the wax can melt, Daidalos warns Ikaros not to fly too high and close to the sun, but not too low either, because the wings would become too heavy from the seawater. However, Ikaros is reckless, he flies too high so that the wax melts and he falls into the sea.
