In the Sea of a Thousand Buddhas

by Walter G. Allgöwer

Between gold and silence, time seems to hold its breath. In the shadows of Wat Worachanyawat, hidden in the bustling heart of Bangkok, the gilded Buddhas stand as guardians of a reality that lies beyond the visible. Their gentle glow is more than just the play of light on metal. It is as though the echo of countless prayers has settled upon their surface, leaving behind a trace of eternity.
Each statue exudes the same quiet serenity, and yet each tells its own nameless secret. Their downcast gazes seem to peer into a world hidden from restless thought. There, where words are no longer necessary, the realm of inner realisation begins.
The gold shimmers like frozen sunlight, trapped between past and present. Behind the figures, other Buddhas blur into shadowy apparitions, as if emerging from the mists of ancient legends. They are reminiscent of soul lights that wander through the centuries, guiding those who seek.
In this image, repetition becomes meditation. Figure after figure, gaze after gaze, silence after silence. The boundaries between the individual forms dissolve until only a single thought remains: everything is connected.
And whilst the metropolis hums outside, a different current seems to flow here, silent and timeless. A golden river of mindfulness that flows through the heart of the temple and, for a moment, opens the door to something infinite.
