Impressive interior of Bordeaux Cathedral.
Bordeaux Cathedral (in French full: Cathédrale Primatiale Saint-André de Bordeaux) is the most important religious building in the French city of Bordeaux. The cathedral is dedicated to the apostle Andrew. The cathedral was consecrated in 1096 by Pope Urban II. Between the 12th and 14th centuries, the church was rebuilt in Gothic style. Between 1440 and 1500, a detached bell tower, the tour Pey Berland, was added to the cathedral.
A number of important royal marriages took place in the church: in 1137 between Eleanor of Aquitaine and Louis VII and in 1615 between Anna of Austria and Louis XIII.
The cathedral is 124 metres long inside and the nave is 18 metres wide. The height of the vault is 23 metres in the nave and 29 metres in the choir. The towers at the northern entrance have a height of 81 metres.
The structure was protected as a real estate heritage and granted the status of French monument historique. In 1998, the Cathedral Saint-André-de-Bordeaux and detached tower tour Pey Berland were inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee as part of the inscription Pilgrim Routes in France to Santiago de Compostella. In addition, the cathedral is also part of the Port de la Lune which is also on the World Heritage List.
