Isola San Giulio is a beautiful small island, located in Lake Orta in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. Particularly picturesque, it really is a beautiful sight that you just have to see with your own eyes to believe. The island rises out onto the lake and is home to a cluster of historic religious buildings and houses, some of which are over 1,000 years old. Legend has it that Isola San Giulio was once a bare rock populated only by snakes and terrible monsters. This was the case until the year 390, when San Giulio crossed the lake on his cloak, was led by a storm by his servants and landed on the island. He decided to settle there and save the island, transforming it into a center of evangelization that would focus on guiding the local people. The island took its name and over the years many religious buildings were added.
