The parable of the Good Samaritan is a parable in the Gospel of Luke, part of the New Testament of the Bible, told by Jesus in response to the question, "who is my neighbor?" in connection with the commandment "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18b).
In the story, first two high-ranking Jews (a priest and a Levite) refuse to get their hands dirty to help a victim of a violent crime on the side of the road, but later a Samaritan (a people scorned by the Jews at the time) proves helpful.
Johann Wilhelm Schirmer (September 7, 1807 in Jülich; September 11, 1863 in Karlsruhe) was a German landscape painter and graphic artist of the Düsseldorf School.
