About the artwork

Artistic still life with fruit and a portrait of two children. A festoon is a decoration with fruit, leaves and/or flowers in the form of a garland that is held up at the ends by ribbons or medallions.

Joris van Son or Georg van Son (baptized 24 September 1623 in Antwerp, Brabant, Belgium - buried 25 June 1667 in Antwerp) was a Flemish still life painter who worked in a number of subgenres, but is best known for his fruit still lifes. He also made flower still lifes, banquet still lifes, vanitas still lifes and showpiece still lifes. He is known to have painted fish still lifes representing the four elements. He collaborated with figure artists on "garland paintings," which typically represent a devotional image framed by a garland of fruit or flowers.

Erasmus Quellinus II (Antwerp, 19 November 1607 - there, 7 November 1678), also called Erasmus the Younger, was a well-known Brabant painter and copper engraver from the Antwerp artist family Quellinus.
