A jumping whale on the coast of Hermanus in South Africa. A lucky moment to see these magnificent animals from the wharf during sunrise. The view of the mountains with a Jacob's ladder was already stunning. When a young whale gave a jumping show, the picture was more than complete! What a wonderful moment, and a great start to the day!
Coastal town Hermanus, South Africa, is located on the beautiful southern coast of the Western Cape and is known for seeing the impressive Southern Right Whales. Hundreds of whales can be seen here on the coast in early June to late November.
Hermanus can be considered the home of these whales. Every year around June, the whales arrive to breed, give birth and play. During this period they do not eat, but the adult whales live off their fat reserves.
In addition to the Southern Right Whale, humpback and Bryde's whales, as well as African penguins, Cape fur seals and dolphins can be seen in Hermanus.
