I took this photo at Schiphol Airport, at a spot where you are just a little bit closer to the action than at the famous Polderbaan runway. The moment when this KLM Cityhopper pulls its nose up remains impressive - the powerful take-off, the blue aircraft against the sky, and the realisation that here begins yet another journey. The compact Embraer aircraft is typical of KLM's regional network, and that is precisely what makes the take-off so dynamic: fast, quiet and accurate. For me as a photographer, this is all about timing, sharpness and capturing movement. The background, with its mix of airport infrastructure and open sky, enhances the sense of direction and departure. This shot is an ode to the small aircraft doing great work for Dutch aviation.
