Kintsugi Dahlia

Kintsugi Dahlia – The Beauty of Imperfection.

"This breathtaking 3D still life brings the ancient Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi to life in a modern and luxurious style. A sumptuous, deep burgundy dahlia springs forth with powerful, asymmetrical dynamism from a hand-formed vase of rough terracotta. The fracture lines in both the ceramic vase and the fragile petals have been carefully ‘repaired’ with fine, shimmering veins of liquid gold.

The artwork stands out for its intense contrasts: the bone-dry, matt and earthy texture of the vase forms the ultimate contrast to the high-gloss, almost liquid-looking glaze of the flower. Refined by a warm, dramatic raking light that casts deep shadows, this composition exudes character, tranquillity and timeless elegance. An inspired statement piece that immediately catches the eye.

Art style used
This work straddles the boundary between Contemporary Biomorphic Art (contemporary organic art) and the traditional Japanese Wabi-Sabi aesthetic.

• Wabi-Sabi and Kintsugi: This style embraces imperfection and transience. Golden accents highlight fractures and demonstrate that repair adds beauty.
• Organic Minimalism: The lush flower, asymmetrical composition and natural shades of terracotta, sage green, cream and burgundy create a serene, minimalist balance.

Tip from the artist: this piece looks its best on:
* Acrylic glass (Gloss) – Highly recommended for the gold
* Canvas (with wooden frame) – For a painterly look
* Aluminium Dibond (Matt) – For a understated, modern look
