Kudu is a genus of medium to large antelope in the family of the caveman (Bovidae). The genus includes seven species. All species are slightly built, have long necks and have a considerable sexual dimorphism. Because of the characteristic more or less twisted horns, this group is also called screw horn antelopes or screw horn cattle.
The name "Tragelaphus" comes from the mythical tragelaph: a cross between a goat and a deer.
