About ‘Koinobori’ by Nik Eichler
I photographed these fish at Tokyo Tower. I was fascinated by the contrast between the fish and the black night sky.
The koinobori are constructed like windsocks and are hoisted mainly on Japanese Children's Day, 5 May.
However, as they are symbols of luck and prosperity, they can also be found on other occasions.

I try to photograph and alter motifs that I often, but not always, discover in nature in such a way that the result is not an exact reproduction of reality, but conveys a mood created by alienation.
In this way, most of my pictures take on a quality that is more reminiscent of painting than photography.
