About ‘Kōno Bairei – Two Wild Geese over the Reeds (1881)’ by Peter Balan
Two wild geese fly over the reeds. In Japan, migrating geese are a classic symbol of autumn and longing. This page is taken from Bairei’s ‘Album of a Hundred Birds’ (Bairei hyakuchō gafu) from 1881. Kōno Bairei (1844–1895) was one of Kyoto’s most influential painters and teachers during the Meiji period.
