View of the lake Furusjøen in the Rondane National Park in Norway. A beautiful lake, which lies at an altitude of 852 meters in a beautiful and rugged area. On the right of the photo you can see the river Frya from the valley Frydalen flowing into the lake.
The lake is not very big by Norwegian standards, it is only about 3 km in diameter. But it still looks big and a walk around it easily covers about 18 km. And that is just one of the many hikes that are possible and highly recommended in the vicinity of the lake.
Hiking in this area means walking through forests, on sandy paths, past low bushes and many rocks and mosses. The view is always mouth-watering, you'll be able to see the more than 2,000-metre peaks of Rondane Nasjonal Park looming behind Lake Furusjøen from different angles. But, the day we were there it was quite rainy and therefore the snowy peaks were only visible occasionally. We had made a climb to the top of the Hovdepiggen, a mountain near the lake, at 968 meters altitude. The dark clouds drifted slowly behind the lake and actually matched the impressive, rough and empty landscape. Except for the log cabin in the foreground, there seems to be no trace of human beings. But if you look more closely at the details of the photo, you will see that there are more houses here and there along the lake. When we were there at the end of May there was not much life in those houses. In the winter this will probably be different, because it is also possible to ski in this area.
