Saxon Switzerland is about 60% forested, as you can read, quite a high value compared to other Central European landscapes. Due to the rocks, the region is difficult to access, the forest has been preserved. The former deciduous and mixed forests were gradually replaced by monocultures, consisting mainly of coniferous species.
