Lancia Gamma Coupe at Tuscan Sunset

by Jan Keteleer

When I painted this Lancia Gamma Coupe, I wanted to hold on to a moment that most of us pass by too quickly—the last warm hour of a Tuscan day. The car rests on a winding road, its deep cherry-red body catching the golden light like an ember that refuses to fade. I built the paint up in thick impasto layers, letting every brushstroke stay visible, because I believe the hand of the maker should remain present in the work.

Pininfarina shaped this coupe with clean, angular lines, and I let those lines speak against the soft, rolling hills behind it. Tall cypress trees rise beside an old stone wall, standing guard like quiet witnesses. Far away, the ridges dissolve into lavender and blue, while the sky glows in bands of amber, orange, and violet.

For me, this painting is about the journey more than the destination. The road curves out of sight, and I find comfort in not knowing what lies beyond. Machine and landscape, design and nature, meet here in harmony. I hope you feel that same stillness when you look at it, and perhaps remember a road of your own that once led you somewhere unforgettable.
