From an inheritance, I got access to quite a few slides. I digitised all of these. Some of the slides were taken on and around the grounds of Groenteveiling Naaldwijk. I have tried to improve the quality of the slides and, from the total number of black-and-white shots of the auction, I selected these. The location was, from about 1926, on the 's -Gravenzandseweg in Naaldwijk. Products were brought in by water in the first years of the auction. Gardeners brought tomatoes, cauliflower, carrots, grapes and so on to their auction with their Westlander (type designation of the barge) at all times of the year. Loading and unloading was done manually, which of course was hard work. It was also a challenge to land the beautiful produce undamaged in difficult weather conditions. The photo clearly shows how busy it could sometimes be at the supply hall. Helping each other and being patient at times was common. The Naaldwijk vegetable auction joined auction Westland Zuid and auction Delft-Westerlee in 1972. The auction buildings were, almost all of them, demolished. On the grounds of the auction and areas adjacent to it, the residential area Opstal was subsequently created.
