A mountain is a land form that consists of a limited area that is clearly higher than the surrounding area. The flanks of a mountain consist of more or less steep slopes and the relief on and around the mountain is large. A mountain is generally higher and steeper than a hill, but there is no fixed definition for the distinction between the two. Sometimes the definition is that a mountain rises more than 200 to 300 meters above its surroundings, a smaller elevation is then called a hill.
