Summer 2019 In Łeba
Near Łeba there are extensive shifting sand dunes (Góry Białe), which reach a height of 42 m in the Lontzkedüne, located 9 kilometres west of Leba on a narrow spit between Lake Leba and the Baltic Sea.
To the west of Lake Leba rise the so-called Small Woolen Sacks, the highest dunes in Hinterpommerania, reaching a height of up to 56 metres. To the east of Lake Leba are the Great Woolen Sacks, dunes up to 45 metres high with a 23-metre beacon.
The behaviour of the Pomeranian shifting sand dunes was studied between the two world wars by the geologist Wilhelm Hartnack from Greifswald.
