Lioness from the Lion foundation based at Hoenderdaell animal park.
The foundation aims to take in large felines in need. If possible, the shelter is temporary and the animals are prepared for return to their country of origin.
The animals taken in come from private individuals, for example, are former circus animals or animals rescued from war situations. Due to new laws and regulations, predators are allowed to perform in fewer and fewer countries. Therefore, lions and tigers often no longer have a place. Their owners then look for a place where they can enjoy a good old age
Because all animals at the foundation are kept in captivity, they cannot survive in the wild. For example, they know no natural enemies and have never provided their own food. However, it is possible to rehome the animals in an enclosed nature park in as natural an environment as possible, where they are closely monitored.
The Lions Foundation has its own plot of land in South Africa where The Lions Foundation is based.
