Leon Chwistek (1884-1944) was a Polish painter, philosopher, mathematician and art theorist who played a central role in Poland's avant-garde movement. He was one of the founders of the Krakow Expressionist group and was known for his theoretical writings on art. Chwistek's style developed from Expressionism via Futurism to a separate movement, "Formism", which represented a synthesis of geometric shapes and dynamic colours. In addition to his artistic activities, he was also a professor of philosophy and was intensively involved with logic and mathematics.
