The Uros Islands, located on Lake Titicaca in Puno, Peru, are a group of small artificial islands created by the Uro community, an ancestral people of the region. The islands are built from totora, an abundant aquatic plant that grows in the waters of the lake. This unique way of life on these floating islands has been passed down from generation to generation, and building them requires particular expertise. The Uros live in perfect harmony with nature, using the totora not only to build their homes, but also to make boats and other everyday objects.
During a visit to the Uros islands, travellers will discover the customs and traditions of this people, including their traditional crafts and songs. The locals extend a warm welcome to visitors, offering a glimpse of their lake-centred way of life. The natural environment of Titicaca, with its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking scenery, adds to the magic of this place.
