About ‘Light and Dark’ by SR Blaauw

Where sea and land meet, an impressive spectacle of light and dark unfolds. A heavy, threatening sky hangs over a rugged coastal landscape, whilst a warm golden glow breaks through on the horizon. The dark silhouettes of the rocks form a striking contrast to the soft light that seems to be breaking through the sky. If you look closely, you’ll spot a solitary lighthouse in the distance, standing firm amidst the elements like a small beacon.

This image was captured at a moment when the weather was constantly changing. It was precisely that transition between storm and clearing that made the scene so special. Nature demonstrated how vulnerability and strength can coexist. The interplay of shadow, light and form immediately caught my attention and formed the inspiration for this photograph.

The atmosphere is mysterious and, at the same time, hopeful. The work speaks of perseverance, even when dark clouds obscure the view. The golden light on the horizon symbolises new possibilities and serves as a reminder that clarity lies beyond every storm.

Thanks to its striking contrasts and minimalist composition, this piece fits perfectly into a modern, industrial or contemporary interior. It adds depth, tranquillity and a subtle sense of drama without being overpowering.
