The lilac breasted roller lives on the savannah and in open forests in Africa. They often sit, alone or in pairs, in treetops or on poles. This is a very colourful bird, which owes its Dutch and French name to the two long feathers at the end of its tail. While its English name refers to the purple-coloured feathers on its chest.
