About the artwork
View from the hill of the Morro de Toix towards the coastal town of Calpe and the Peñón de Ifach. The Sierra de Toix, also called Morro de Toix, is a mountain range on the Costa Blanca. It separates the bays of Calpe and Altea. Geographically, it is a promontory of the Sierra de Bernia that juts into the Mediterranean Sea.
The coastline is generally characterised by a fascinating cliff. In the past, the Toix vantage point served as an observation post, as this wonderful spot offers a fantastic view of the Mediterranean Sea. It was part of the historical surveillance system on the Valencian coast.
I like to be inspired by the views of the coastal landscape, as well as the rugged rock formations. The rock has been shaped by erosion and the power of the water. Over many millennia it has been shaped by Mother Nature. I particularly like the contrast of the light limestones and the blue Mediterranean Sea. The shapes, colours and the abstract effect of the eroded rock fascinate me very much. For this reason, I have dedicated a photo series to this special place on the Mediterranean coast in Spain.
This photo is ment to bring the charm of the coastal town of Calpe and its landmark, the Peñón de Ifach (Penyal d'Ifac), into your four walls.
