About ‘Little Owl (Athene noctua)’ by Ronald Pol

A portrait of a Little Owl in a hollow Willow. The Little Owl lives solitary. The bird is little noticed thanks to its small size. The Little Owl's food is adapted to its size: it catches mice if it can, but also many earthworms, beetles and other insects, as well as frogs or young birds. Sometimes the Little Owl surprises prey that are relatively large compared to its own size, such as rats. It has different hunting techniques, such as observing from a pole, walking and running on the ground or hunting from low flight.
