The pier houses in Loggos on the unspoilt idyllic Greek island of Paxos. Where I lost my heart since 1988 to the beautiful olive groves, cypress trees, white "pebble" beaches, azure-aqua-coloured seawater-filled bays, high cliffs, sea caves and sweet Greek villages. The delicious smell of olive wood and the salty Ionian Sea. At Cafe Roxi, I sit on the front terrace on the shady side as early as 7.30pm. Deliciously enjoying a cappuccino together with the Greeks who, before going to work, have their chocolate croissant from the bakery next door together with a Greek coffee, all with a cigarette of course. The whiff of tobacco and the calm harbour water mix with my coffee.
An island where ordinary cosy families and the jet set of world renown celebrate their summer holidays. Mundane yet just simple and local. No mass culture here. This beautiful work portrays the island of Paxos at its best. Dreaming away and musing on the pleasantly warm summer sun and the wonderful Greek atmosphere.
