The architecturally exceptional Leadenhall Market is a market in the City of London that is open to the public. It impresses with its beautiful cast iron and glass architecture and its wonderful colours and many architectural details.
It was first opened in 1445 and was the venue for poultry and cheese traders, later wool was also sold there and leather was traded - as a monopoly.
After the Great Fire of London in 1666, the market was destroyed and was rebuilt in its present form by architect Horace Jones in 1881 in Victorian style.
It has been a listed building since 1972.
Today it has also become famous thanks to the Harry Potter film adaptations, in particular the scenes in Diagon Alley.
However, its beauty attracts not only Harry Potter fans, but tourists from all over the world.
It is home to bars, restaurants and various shops and is one of the highlights of the city.
The beautiful dome and the pillars with the dragons are decorated in great detail. A wonderful magical place in the centre of London!
