About ‘Lonely tree in the snow’ by Friedhelm Peters

This photo, like many of my other pictures, is my personal antithesis to the hectic pace of everyday life. As an intensive care nurse, I know how valuable moments of absolute silence are. In Münsterland, days like this, when the snow swallows everything and the world holds its breath for a moment, have become extremely rare.

What makes this picture special for me is that it's not just the wide, white expanse. If you take a closer look, you discover the details that make this rare snowy day so tangible:

The small tracks: in the foreground you can see very delicate imprints in the snow. It is fascinating how even a tiny track in the depths of winter tells a story of life, while the rest of the world seems frozen.

The battle of the details: the thin wild herbs frozen to the fence look almost like a delicate sketch. They form the anchor point before the gaze wanders to the solitary tree in the distance.

The light: There are no harsh shadows or harsh glare here. The light is soft and honest - exactly what a real winter morning in Münsterland feels like.

Why this picture? I took this photo to capture the tranquillity that is often so desperately sought. It is a piece of "visual relaxation". On a wall in the living room or office, it looks like an open window to a place where there is guaranteed to be no stress. A real piece of home in its purest form.

He works as an intensive care nurse and his passion for photography accompanied him since childhood. His grandfather was an avid photographer and passed this passion on to him.
