About the artwork
In Luck, Lace and Lipstick, I wanted to capture a moment that would never have been painted in the 18th century. A woman not smiling neatly on the sidelines, but smiling fully - she wins, she dares, she enjoys. Around her table it is bursting with energy: friends shouting along, a shocked onlooker, and spilt tea. Everything vibrates with life, with freedom.
I became fascinated by how women at that time were often depicted merely as ornamental objects. In this work, I turn that around: these women take up space. They play, they risk, they celebrate their own strength. The style is classical and softly lit, but the emotion is raw and modern.
The atmosphere is warm and exuberant - as if you are joining their fun for a moment. For me, this work is about female boldness and zest for life, about moments when elegance and daring come together. In an interior, it brings a touch of theatre, humour and strength: a nod to the past, but with a clear look ahead.
