Lysefjord; Norway’s most breathtaking fjord
The Lysefjord is probably the first fjord you’ll come across when travelling through Norway from the south. The name of this fjord might not ring a bell at first, but if I show you a photo of the famous rock platform ‘Preikestolen’, it’s bound to ring a bell. Set amidst the rugged landscape of the Lysefjord, this enormous rock face rises a staggering 604 metres vertically above the water, like a pulpit. As you can imagine, from here you have a breathtaking view of the high mountain peaks and granite rock formations of this wild fjord! And that is precisely why the Lysefjord belongs on this list of Norway’s most beautiful fjords. Good to know: the walk to the Preikestolen is eight kilometres long, taking you through forests, past mountain lakes and over rocky terrain. So good walking boots are a must.

Not a fan of strenuous hikes? You can also admire the Lysefjord and Preikestolen from the water on a boat trip, whilst enjoying the views of the impressive mountains, glistening waterfalls, mountain farms and goats grazing amongst the rocks.
