Mechanical infinity

by Sven Fauth

This digital artwork is based on the generation of complex 3D fractals and was created using Mandelbulb 3D software. It shows a multi-layered, almost endless structure in which spherical fractal objects and strictly geometric components combine to form a monumental, machine-like landscape. Mandelbulb fractals are characterised by their self-similarity: Each level reveals new details that make the underlying mathematical order visible and at the same time unfold an organic complexity. The metallic-looking surfaces and the precisely placed lighting reinforce the impression of depth and spatiality. Light and shadow model the forms in such a way that they oscillate between futuristic architecture and cosmic matter. Despite its technical origins, the composition does not appear static, but dynamic – as if the structure were in a state of permanent creation and transformation. The work moves at the interface between mathematics, algorithms and digital art. It invites us to explore the aesthetics of mathematical processes and to rethink the boundary between calculated form and artistic intuition. As a visual experience, the fractal opens up a view into an abstract, yet strictly ordered and fascinatingly infinite world.
