This is number 4 in my Memories of Samurai collection. Here we see a dark, intimidating figure, moving out of the darkness with highlights of blue on his armour, a golden symbol on his helmet and red tassels for decoration. The Samurai were the officers and/or nobility of the warrior class of Japan from medieval times up until near the end of the nineteenth century. Samurai culture was influenced by various religions including Buddhism and Zen for example. They were loyal to their clan and their lord. Samurai were also known as bushi or buke in Japanese, and the actual word Samurai comes from the original Japanese word Saburau.
