This enchanting work of art is a tribute to the beautiful Lombok forest in Leersum, located on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The scene depicts a serene snowy landscape and in the distance, between the trees, the intriguing Tomb of Nellesteyn looms as a silent witness to history. The Tomb of Nellesteyn is a historical monument that is deeply rooted in the history of Leersum.
I created this artwork based on a photo I took in 2020, during an enchanting morning walk in the fresh snow. Unfortunately, as fate sometimes decides, the trees that framed this beautiful atmosphere were felled by a devastating fall wind on June 18, 2021. But this sculpture, this work of art, remains for me personally a fond memory of the Lombok forest in all its splendor.
I have captured the essence of that winter morning with love and care and incorporated the meaning of the Lombok forest and the Tomb of Nellesteyn into this work. It is my tribute to the beauty of nature, to the history of a place and to the beautiful memories I cherish. This artwork invites you to reflect on the transience of nature and at the same time hope for the rebirth of the Lombok forest in the future.
