The redesign of Mirabell Gardens in its current form was commissioned by Prince Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun from 1687[1], with the architect Johann Bernhard Fi-scher von Erlach in charge of the overall design of the work. Small parts of the garden were altered by Matthias Diesel before 1720 and larger parts were altered by the architect and court garden inspector Franz Anton Danreiter after 1730. The Baroque sculptures (except in the Dwarf Garden) were essentially always retained. Changes were also made to the design of the garden ornaments, the shape of some of the fountains was altered, the Sala terrena was also remodelled several times and the layout and design of the orangery were also changed. In times of need, the garden was also briefly used to grow vegetables.
