Monschau (French: Montjoie), with around 11,500 inhabitants, belongs to the Aachen city region, and owes its name to Monschau Castle. This view of centuries-old half-timbered houses is also known as the Rurpartie. The River Rur flows directly past Monschau's market square, making the Rurpartie the north side of the market.
