About ‘Monte Cassino, Lazio’ by Jan Sportel Photography

Uitzicht vanaf de klooster Monte Cassino, op een hoogte van 519 meter. Het is als bedevaartsoord reeds eeuwen zeer in trek; o.a. Benedictus van Nursia ligt hier begraven. Daar het in de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd verwoest door de geallieerden. De wederopbouw nadien duurde meer dan 10 jaar.
