A watercolor drawing of a blue morpho, or the morpho menelaus. A butterfly that occurs in Central and South America and you will often find in butterfly gardens. The butterfly is depicted with its shiny blue wings upwards, its wings are spread which creates symmetry. The butterfly is colored with different shades of blue and purple, so that the effect of the shimmer is obtained. The background is purple with a texture. Underneath the butterfly there is a hint of a shadow which makes the insect seem to detach itself from the background.
