Mountain Worlds LI – Stone Testaments to the Earth’s History by Helmut Martin - The Art of Stone - Steinkunst & Photographie

This authentic nature photograph depicts an expressive and highly focused close-up portrait of a rock formation in the Valle di Livo, in the mountains above Lake Como. At the centre of the dense composition stands a boulder eroded by the torrent, whose complex, flowing stratification immediately captivates the viewer. Geologically, the work documents a classic Alpine migmatite gneiss. The high-contrast, wave- and loop-like banding of light mineral layers and dark mica layers visually captures the unimaginable tectonic forces of Alpine folding.

The work completely dispenses with artificial effects and utilises soft daylight to vividly highlight the rock’s rough yet water-polished texture.

A striking and richly detailed natural motif that brings grounded stability, geological history and the unspoilt aesthetics of the Italian Alps into modern living and working spaces. Particularly effective as a large-format landscape print on matt aluminium Dibond or behind anti-reflective museum-grade glass.
