The artwork shows a microphotograph of the stomata on the underside of a leaf. At first glance, these structures appear like tiny eyes spread across the surface of the leaf. The stomata are arranged symmetrically and open like tiny mouths to allow gas exchange between the plant and its environment. The plant absorbs CO2 and releases oxygen through these openings.
The photograph emphasises the complex structure and fascinating beauty of these microcosmic elements. The focus is on the stomata in the centre to emphasise the complexity and functionality of these small but vital components of a plant.
This artwork invites the viewer to discover the wonders of nature from a new perspective and appreciate the hidden beauties that are normally hidden from the human eye. The fascinating beauty of the microcosm is depicted here in an almost abstract way, one could almost assume it is an abstract painting.
This is a photograph taken through a light microscope, showing a leaf magnified 100x.
