’s nachts in het bos
volgt een grote uil
me met zijn ogen
nightly forest walk
a big owl
keeps its eye on me
I am watching you is a watercolour painting in portrait format by the artist Karen Kaspar. An owl is sitting on a branch. It has lowered its head and looks at the viewer with a penetrating gaze from its bright orange-coloured eyes. The plumage is painted with loose brushstrokes in shades of blue and brown. The background is white with splashes of colour in the same shades as the owl's feathers.
This work, a combination of painting and haiku, is a joint project by Karen Kaspar (© art and artwork) and Marjolein Rotsteeg (© Haiku).
A haiku is a traditional Japanese poetry form consisting of three lines.
Here the watercolour painting has been supplemented with the haiku in Dutch. In my portfolio there is also a variant with the poem in English (see album 'Haiku and Painting English'). The painting is also available without text (see album 'Birds').
You can find more paintings with haiku and poems in my albums 'Haiku and Painting English' and 'Haiku and Painting Dutch'. New works are constantly being added to the albums. So keep checking back from time to time!
